Learn how to match lids to your Pyrex glass containers, identify replacement options, and understand compatibility with Snapware plastic lids.
Quick answer
To choose the right Pyrex glass food storage lid, match the lid type (plastic or glass) to your container shape and size, and check the model number for compatibility.
Plastic vs. Glass Lids: What to Consider
Plastic lids are lightweight, leak-proof, and often have a snap-on seal that keeps contents fresh. Glass lids are heavier, oven-safe up to a point, and provide a clear view of the food. Your choice depends on whether you plan to reheat in the container or prefer a lighter seal.
Size and Shape Compatibility
Lids are designed for specific container shapes and sizes. A round lid will not fit a rectangular base, and vice versa. Always measure the container opening or check the model number printed on the base or lid to ensure a proper fit.
Replacement Lids: What to Look For
If you've lost or damaged a lid, look for a replacement that lists your container's model number in its compatibility details. For example, the Snapware® Total Solution® Medium Round Plastic Lid with Teal Seal is designed to fit specific Snapware® containers, including the 4-cup Pyrex glass round. Not all lids are universal.
Decision rules for choosing a lid
- Match the shape: Round lids only fit round containers; rectangular lids only fit rectangular containers. Measure the opening or check the model number.
- Check the model number: Look for a model number on the container base or lid. Use it to find compatible replacement lids, such as the Snapware® Total Solution® Medium Round Plastic Lid with Teal Seal (model 7201R). Write down the model number before shopping for a replacement.
- Decide on lid material: Plastic lids are lighter and often leak-proof; glass lids are heavier and may be oven-safe (check manufacturer guidelines). Choose based on your reheating and storage habits.
- Consider capacity: Large containers like the 8-cup rectangle come with a plastic lid designed for that size. Ensure the lid's capacity matches the container's volume for a proper seal.
